Chapter 17
Emil
âWell, well. Look who it is. Youâve got some explaining to do, mister.â
I let the door to the studio close behind me, wondering how in the hell Alex knew I was coming. âWere you waiting here for me?â
He scoffs, but he doesnât deny it. âYou and Christian.â
âUm,â I say, skirting past the blonde menace to head down the hall. âYeah?â
âDonât yeah me, Kent. What the hell is going on? The way you two were looking at each other Friday night⦠You canât tell me that was nothing.â
I give Marco a nod as we pass in the hall. Luckily, when I enter the break room, Alex hot on my heels, the only other person present to witness my interrogation is Dixon.
Turning, I face the firing squad. âWeâre dating.â
Alexâs mouth falls open before he recovers. âSince when?â
âSaturday.â
I can see his wheels spinning. âYou, the guy who never dates, are going out with your coworker whom youâve known for all of a few weeks?â
âUmâ¦â
âKent,â he warns.
âWeâve known each other longer.â
Silence falls, and Dixon snorts.
âYou, hush,â Alex says to our coworker before addressing me. âDefine âlonger.ââ
I sigh, knowing thereâs no way out of this. Alex is going to pry the truth from me, either slowly or by force. Might as well save myself the struggle.
âChristian lives next door to me. We met, or rather started texting, four months ago after he caught me jerking off through the windows of our respective apartment buildings. He applied for this job without knowing I worked here, and nowâ¦here we are.â
Alex doesnât say a word. Not a single one.
âI think you broke him,â Dixon mumbles before taking a sip of his latte. âBravo.â
âYouâ¦â Alex says before pausing. His eyes light. âHeâs the one youâre always texting.â
âYou solved it, Lois,â I say, taking a seat at one of the tables. I swing my bookbag to the ground as Alex sits across from me.
âWhy were you hiding it?â he asks, expression and tone gentle if not a little confused.
Because our relationship, at the time, was based around the fact that Iâm an exhibitionist who gets off on my neighbor watching me pleasure myself?
âUmâ¦â
âNot everyone is as open with their lives as you are, Alex,â Dixon points out.
ââScuse you. Like thatâs a bad thing?â Alex retorts.
Dixon levels him with an unimpressed glare. âPudding pop, darling, my little tater tot, there are things no person needs to know. Like how many cumulative dicks and fingers their coworkerâs ass can take.â
Alex turns to me with a grin. âThe answer is two plus three.â
I blanch.
âAnd weâre porn stars,â Alex says, returning his attention to Dixon. âLike any of the intimate details of our assets are secret. Must I remind you where your tongue has been?â
âJesus Christ,â Dixon grumbles. âWhy did I engage?â
I grab my bag, slipping from my seat while my coworkers are distracted.
âGrumpy Bear,â Alex says, âjust because youâre allergic to sharing your own feelings doesnât mean everyone in class is.â
âHow in the hell did we get from DP to feelings?â Dixon asks in concern.
